Carl is obviously summoning the ghost of old time Sox player Colonel Puppy, a nick name given to Alfonso "Colonel" Carrasquel, the first Latin American player to appear in an All-Star Game. His first few appearances were mediocre, but then his bat woke up and all heck broke loose. Ozie was reported as saying The Colonel, as the first great Venezuelan shortstop, helped put our country on the baseball map. He was named Colonel for his command of the game and Puppy for his boy like charm. Or, Carl could be referring to our Sox terrible strike out to nine inning ratio (K9) and our easy to catch hitting (Can o Corn), but I’m betting on “The Colonel.”
