That New Carl Smell

My cartoons are now being posted at GoComics under a new title, That New Carl Smell.

Same ol' Carl doodles, but to a universal audience. So, less Chicago sports. Although, I get the impression I can do whatever interests me as long as there are a bunch of people following me.

If you're a fan of comics, I recommend the GoGomics app. Set up an account and choose your favorite cartoons. And That New Carl Smell is one of your favorites, right? You'll have your own personal comic section on your PC, phone or tablet.

GoComics, in a nutshell, is the digital publishing site for Universal Press. All of the classic newspaper strips (Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes, Dilbert, Pearls Before Swine) as well as popular webcomics, like mine. It's just a place for more people to see my work.

King of Clubs. For Sale.

Hello. How would you like a little piece of original art?

I have 21 hand-drawn King of Clubs cards ready to sell. These are not prints. I sat down with a brush and ink, and I drew every line. Like a crazy monk! Every one is slightly different.

Only 21 cards exist. They are first-come, first-serve, and hand-numbered and signed by me.

They are 4" x 6", so they fit conveniently in any cheap 4" x 6" frame you have sitting around the house.

Each will be bagged and packed in a chipboard envelope.

They are $14 per piece, plus shipping & tax.

White Sox Dogs Playing Poker

Jim Margalus' White Sox Outsider 2012 is on the horizon. This is what it’ll look like. I created the cover, as I did in 2010 and 2011. More details to come about where to buy the book. Jim is the managing editor at South Side Sox. All Sox fans should make a habit of following his daily White Sox coverage.

On a more disappointing note, I was told by the Southtown Star that they don’t have the budget to continue publishing my Smells Like Mascot cartoons. I had planned on drawing a black-and-white cartoon version of this painting, for this weekend's paper. Now, I don't have to. If there's an upside, I don't have to put this painting through that process of de-evolution.

Going forward, I’ll continue to post art online. I can’t promise too many paintings on canvas, but evolving beyond the constraints of newspapers is overdue. I’m also going to try to get more art into people’s hands and put a little effort into making some money.

Thank you for your continued interest in my work. Happy Baseball Season.
